|
A very successful Treasure Hunt was held on Friday 4th June. The Welcome Committee did a wonderful job organising the event and over 30 cars followed a detailed route through the local Ayrshire countryside on a beautiful evening. Fish suppers, sausage suppers and chips were all consumed in the Church hall after the event and a further quiz entertained particpants waiting for all the teams to arrive at the hall after completing the course. Prizes were presented to the winners. |

The Pastoral Group reported that they were now holding services in Grange Nursing Home on the second Tuesday afternoon of the month and anyone interested in coming along to assist with the singing will be made most welcome.
The Presbytery Elder, Derrick MacAllister, reported on the last meeting of Presbytery. All ministers have been approached regarding the “Disability Champion Project” and it was suggested that Mrs. Barbara Urquhart be appointed.

New Laigh Kirk
|
Grange Church and Laigh West High Kirk unanimously voted to unite and pave the way to develop a new form of ministry in the north west quarter of Kilmarnock, concentrating on mission, outreach and development of the church in a considerable area of our town.
A service of Union took place on Thursday 29th October 2009 in the Laigh West High Kirk at 7.00pm when New Laigh Kirk began a new and exciting ministry. Collaborating in partnership as a parish group with St John’s Onthank a new ministry will be developed, not to be constrained by the traditional patterns of serving the community in which the church has parish responsibility.
The community ministry will be free from the burden of ‘normal’ activities associated with parish ministry - funerals, weddings, parish and member visiting. The task will be to develop a ‘parallel’ community church tackling the social issues within the North West Area parishes presenting the Kingdom of God and being the role model of Christ in addressing these issues.
The challenge facing New Laigh Kirk and St John’s Onthank is to achieve a good balance between encouraging Christian living among our current membership through continued vibrant worship and pastoral care, while simultaneously taking a lead in new forms of outreach to meet spiritual and social needs in the wider community.
Together we will uncover the rich opportunities and explore the many possibilities for the church to re-engage with disaffected communities in the, North West, Bonnyton and town centre parishes for which we have responsibility. We are very excited about the future for our Kirk.
